Welcome to the new Behind the Madness page!
Here, I will build out resources that are well worth your time, be it other newsletters or tutorials, research links, YouTube courses and other housekeeping items. This page has become very detailed and was taking up too much space in each week’s main edition, given the email size limit.
Resources are free unless otherwise noted.
Let’s get into it.
What’s my setup?
I use alpaca markets to place the trades using their paper trading platform. I update the portfolio in Tiingo to do some more analytical tracking. I use Koyfin to track the performance across different time periods.
For charts and other data watching and collecting, I work between FactSet, TradingView, Koyfin, and Atom Finance. With the exception of FactSet, these resources are all free to use.
For organization and collection of notes, ideas, articles, and other related content, I use the following resources:
Notion (to keep notes from articles, books, phone calls, lessons, etc.)
Walling (to collect articles for the weekly editions and as an archive for articles I want to revisit.)
What I read
As for reading mainstream financial news, I tend to like the WSJ, NY Times, CNBC, the Financial Times (FT), Barrons, and Bloomberg. Many of these sources have article limits which stinks.
We cannot forget, of course, our friend FRED, the Federal Reserve Economic Database. Grab their Excel add-in while you’re at it.
Outside of mainstream news, I heavily rely on the Heisenberg Report, which is only $7 monthly and encompasses the above sources with commentary and analysis. They just launched a new website and it is 🔥🔥🔥!
Here are some more quick links:

Market Madness reader’s digest on Bookshlf: a place to share ad hoc articles and brief commentary for readers between weekly editions.
A series of financial musings: an additional page, like this one, dedicated to collecting financial and economic research and commentary and a place for me to provide my learning points and insights.
